At Watchy, we follow Agile. Usually, duration of the sprint is 2 weeks. To know about the status of the sprint tasks, we have stand-up meetings at 10:30 AM every day. Idea is, the team reaches office by 10 AM and check their completed tasks, blocker tasks, i-am-down-need-help tasks to be prepared for the stand-up.
Typically, the stand up is organized by the Scrum master[SM]. SM reminds the team through Slack or WhatsApp about the meeting time. If someone cannot make it, then they can attend remotely over the phone. If more than one person cannot make it, we will have to stand up conference call using Knowlarity free conferencing service.
The time span of the meeting is 20 mins for 6 people. Max 30 mins. Meetings goes in four segments. Individual should tell about the,
Completed tasks
Today’s plan and tasks
Blocker in tasks
Need a help
Will this sprint be a success by me?
In stand up the team reports to the team itself. SM makes sure that everyone covers the above 5 part of the meeting.
What is i-am-down-need-help tasks? We work as commando team. If one soldier is down, the whole mission fails. So when individual shouts and down because of a task, rest of the team will help the individual on that particular tasks and finishes it off.
After this meeting, the dependent tasks are planned with others in the calendar and shared. So the rest of the team members are aware of their responsibilities. This helps us in better time management. If a task is taking longer than expected to complete, we escalate it and the whole team comes forward to help. Always more eyes are better than one. Most of the time, it is the trivial mistake which pulls the task longer.
